Is it really more cost-effective than a direct salary increase?

Yes, significantly. To receive € 2,200 net through a regular salary, your company would need to spend around € 4,500 (social contributions + corporate tax + personal income tax). With meal vouchers, the total cost is about € 2,200, saving nearly 50%.

As the sole director of my company, can I grant myself meal vouchers?

Yes. As a company director, you are considered an employee of your own company. You can therefore grant yourself meal vouchers under the same conditions as a salaried worker. The only requirement: operating through a company (SRL, SA, SC). Sole proprietors without a company are not eligible.

How many meal vouchers can I order as a freelancer?

The standard in Belgium is 220 vouchers per year, based on the number of working days for an employee. However, as a freelancer, you can order more vouchers, but this must remain in line with the days actually worked in your company.

Will meal vouchers increase my tax base or social contributions?

No. Meal vouchers are exempt from social contributions and are not considered taxable income for the beneficiary, provided you respect the legal limits (max. € 10/day, of which min. € 1.09 employee contribution). The employer share (max. € 8.91) is fully deductible for your company.
